Americas
The countries in the North American & South American continents, e.g. USA, Brazil.
ANNOUNCEMENT document
A Corporate, or Support article that communicates new product functionality, release, patch release, Support processes or other support information to Oracle customers. APAC
The countries in the Asian & Pacific areas, e.g. China, Australia.
Application / Application Software
A computer program designed to assist with specific business processes, e.g. Payroll
Application Partner
A supplier who has a partnership agreement with Oracle.
Approvals Management (AME)
Oracle software which assists with the approvals processes within an organization.
Appsworld
A major exhibition by Oracle & its Partners of application software using Oracle technologies
ASP
Application Service Provider - a supplier (e.g. Oracle) who offers software, computing & services for rental or lease.

Benchmark
The reference standard.
Bug
When the software does not operate in accordance with the specification (also see Enhancement request).
Bug Component
a functional area of a Bug
Bulletin
Describes a feature to supplement the documentation; Compilation of multiple problems related by subject or topic;

CAB
Customer Advisory Board � a group of customers who consult with Oracle on its future direction of product and service development, by invitation.
CAGR
Collective agreement
Compensation Workbench (CWB)
a manager-focused tool to allocate budgets and make awards for groups of people, delivered as part of Self Service HR.
Component
An area of functionality within an application (e.g. Absence) or service (e.g. the support service provided outside normal business hours)
Continuous calculation A process that allows the payrun workload to be spread across a pay period
Core Human Resources
The product that delivers the main Human Resources functionality within the HRMS family.
Core Payroll
The product that delivers the main Payroll functionality within the HRMS family.
CSI Number
Customer Support Identification Number � the Oracle reference number unique to the customer�s application and support service - customers must quote this when liaising with Oracle.

A small document (usually 1-4 pages) summarizing a product and/or service
DBi
Daily Business Intelligence � an Oracle Application that provides managers with frequent status updates of key business measurements, e.g. headcount.
dbi / DBI
Database item � an item of information, e.g. First Name.
Diagnostic Tools
A Support tool or utility that collects data via a scan, probe, or gauge mechanism; stores and evaluates the data and provides an answer to assist in problem diagnosis. Released only after rigorous reviews of quality assurance and security by the Service Engineering Team.

eClass
A training session conducted over the internet.
EMEA
Europe, Middle East, Africa � one of the 3 regions within Oracle (EMEA, APAC, Americas)
Enhancement
a change in the design of the application in order to perform new functions or alter the way in which existing features operate.
Enhancement Request
A document specifying changes - new or modified functionality - to be made to a product.
Environment
The computer installation and setup conditions under which the Application is operating.
EOY
EOY (syn TYE) the end of the tax year usually relating to payroll tax year end. EOY patch - contains legislative changes for payroll tax year end processes Export
e.g. export a file � when information is copied outside an application, e.g. to a spreadsheet .

Family Pack (FP)
A software update consisting of many patches from multiple products within a single product family (e.g. HRMS). Example: 11i.HR_PF.G. Contains new and revised functionality.
FAQ document
Frequently Asked Questions � a compilation of information and advice on a particular subject area, available online when the user requires it.

Human Resource Information System � an application for storing and managing employee records and organization information, e.g. jobs

Implementation Partners
Suppliers who work with Oracle and provide implementation specialists to assist customers with the configuration setup of the Application
Individual Compensation Distribution (ICD)
Used by managers to make one-off awards or by employees to make voluntary elections e.g. for charitable contributions or savings.
International HRMS
This is Core Payroll which allows basic features to be adapted for a country, e.g. postcode.
iRecruitment
The Oracle Application for managing recruitment processes using internet & self-service facilities.
iSeminar
A seminar which takes place over the internet or an intranet, where people participate remotely using a computer.
Iterative engine
A core payroll engine which enables calculations to be repeated where the results of payments/deductions are dependent on later calculation e.g. gross up

The Oracle department that provides tools to better understand and manage Oracle products and services.

Legislation

Legislative element
a computer program instruction specific to the legal rules applying within a country.
Link
Allows the user to connect to and display another article or web page directly by positioning the mouse arrow over the link and pressing the left mouse key once. Often a link is shown by using underlined blue coloured text.

Line of Business � a department, e.g. HRMS Sales.
Localization
Additional software layer for one or more HRMS modules that delivers and maintains legislative rules for a specific country/sector

Maintenance Pack
A software update containing patches from all Oracle Applications Products designed to bring a system up to a specific level within an applications release (Example: from 11.5.4 to 11.5.9). See also Point Release.
Mini-pack
A software update consisting of many patches from a single product within a product family (e.g. HRMS). Example: 11i.IRC.B. Contains new and revised functionality for a single HRMS module to update your system

A file containing legislation-specific data, e.g. tax % values

Product Family, e.g. HRMS
Point Release
A software update containing patches including new and revised software from all Oracle Applications Products; designed for new customers, or to bring a system up to a specific level from an earlier applications release (Example: from 11.0.3 to 11.5.9). See also Maintenance Pack.
Post install patch
A program to be installed on the computer after the installation of other programs.

PROBLEM document
An article describing a problem, its cause and the steps required to solve it (could include workarounds and alternatives). Usually created in response to a Service Request.
Product Family
A collection of integrated products. E.g. Payroll and iRecruitment are part of the HRMS product family

The Readme document is delivered with the product, patch, or script, and includes the 'About' document describing changes to the applications.
Reference
Reference documents present authoritative information such as tutorials, standards, error messages, parameter files, VIEWs, latch information, and processes. (See also Tax Reference)

SCRIPT (document type)
Code aimed to assist database, network, system or security administrators to quickly understand and demonstrate and assist administrators in successfully performing their administrative tasks. The script can be written in any programming language or scripting language. Most OSS scripts are written in SQL, SQL*Plus, Unix Shell scripts, JAVA or JavaScript. The script may be used as standalone code, or, the administrator may integrate it into a broader routine or application.
